When I was little, we had one of those educational placemats with all the US Presidents in order on it. George W. Bush was President at the time, so he was the last one on the placemat, and I would repeatedly ask my dad to clarify how he and HW were related (he would patiently answer every single time that they were father and son.) I then began to persistently ask whether those Georges were related to George Washington ("No, sweetie, you're related because of last names, not first names.") Refusing to take no for an answer- if two Presidents are related, why not all of them?-I somehow drew the wholly illogical conclusion that every President must be related, all one big family of Presidents. At one point, I remember finding it remarkable that in this whole family of Presidents, nobody ever had a little girl like me.
